Why do I need a junction box?
Junction boxes are highly recommended accessories for outdoor installations of network cameras in buildings. The first reason is that when you run the cable to the camera you have extra slack at the end, you don't want it to be too short. Also, you have the RJ45 end connection, which are pretty big. You need an extra space to store that slack in the cable and the cable end. The junction box provides housing for that cable and the connectors.
When installed on the outside of a building, anchors are used to attaching the camera to the surface. If you ever have to disassemble the camera for troubleshooting or replacement, you don't want to deal with screws or permanent anchors. If you attach the junction box to the wall and then the camera to the junction box using screws, it becomes a very simple operation to later remove the camera with the screws. The junction box remains intact with the anchors, and you don't have to deal with that. Milesight junction boxes have pre-drilled screw patterns for compatible network cameras.
